And when the soles of the feet of the priests who bear the ark
of the LORD, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of the Jordan,
the waters of the Jordan shall be stopped from flowing,
and the waters coming down from above shall stand in one heap."
Joshua 3:13

And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people
had avenged themselves upon their enemies.
Is not this written in the book of Jasher ? So the sun stood still
in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day.
Joshua 10:13

Stop It

Daylight Savings Time is gone again until the spring.  Now we all adjust our sleep patterns and our lives to the "new time."  Funny thing the new time is really the old time isn't it? Well, maybe, possibly, I don't really know!  There is an old song from Chicago that asks, "Does anybody really know what time it is; does anybody really care?"   We may not know, but I think we do care.  The powers that be who started Daylight Savings Time in the first place also have the power to stop it year in and year out. This time of year the sunny drive home between five and five-thirty now turns to the moonlit drive home as bedtime comes earlier each evening it seems. The sun's place in the sky really determines what time it is. Can you imagine what it would be like if one day the time stayed the same and didn't change? How could that be? If the sun stayed straight up at noon for hours would it still be noon?  Can you imagine what we would have to say about that? In Joshua God did that very thing. He made the sun stand still and I suppose people were amazed.
Earlier in the Book of Joshua, we find where the Jordan River stopped flowing, stood still so to speak.  I suppose people were amazed then as well.  What if on any given day you were driving in Memphis?  Suddenly the darkness caused by the new old-time sets in and you get lost and end up hmmm ... let's say on the West Memphis Arkansas Bridge across the mighty Mississippi River.  Suddenly you see the waters part below and dry land appear. Would you be amazed that the water stopped flowing?
I think so.
But really when we stop and think why should we be amazed?  People stop and start things that they start all the time and we don't really give it that much thought?   God is so much more powerful than we, so why can't He stop things that He started in the first place whenever He gets ready?
There are so many things in our lives we want stopped. We pray and ask God to do these things.  Do we really believe He can stop them?  We should, for God created time and everything in it.  He has the power to make time stand still and He has the power to stop anything that is flowing into our lives against us at any given time.
When He heals us He stops diseases. When He delivers us He stops torment.  When He comforts us He stops loneliness.  When He saves us He stops death and destruction.
There is nothing that God the Creator of Heaven and Earth, of land and sea, of time and space can't stop.
