Home is where the heart is whether the home is perfect or not. Home is the place where we find peace and rest not just for our bodies, but also for our weary minds and hearts. Just thinking of home when we are on a long hard journey seems to bring contentment. Home is a place where racing minds find rest on soft pillows and weary hearts heal holding warm puppies with cold noses.
In I Chronicles 28 David tells of his heart's desire to build a home for the ark of the covenant, a footstool for God. Just think even God needs to find a place of rest every once in a while and I think He probably loves to hold warm puppies too.
Then David the king stood up upon his feet, and said, Hear me, my brethren, and my people: as for me, it was in my heart to build a house of rest for the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, and for the footstool of our God; and I had made ready for the building.
David went on to tell the people that God had told him even though he was prepared to take on the task, another man (Solomon) should build the temple. David turned to Solomon and told him before he could build this house he must know God. Now we all know Solomon was very wise. But it seems David wanted to make sure that his son didn't just know of God, but wanted him to know God in an intimate way before beginning the work. He wanted to make sure his heart was right and that his mind was willing to go forward in serving God. David knew if Solomon had second thoughts about undertaking this task that God would know the thoughts before they were even fully formed.
God is a forgiving God and if we make a sincere effort to seek Him and think on Him He is easily accessible. He wants us to know Him intimately. God helps us to accomplish all we need to get accomplished for Him. When we seek Him, we find Him. When we think on Him we should desire to love and serve Him with our whole heart. He knows our hearts. He knows our thoughts.
One way I like to think of knowing God intimately is kind of like the ahhhhh feeling it is to finally be home after a long hard journey. We should feel at home wherever we may be when we are with God. If our hearts are sincerely set on serving and our minds are kept on Him He will never forsake us. God is a sure thing no matter how far from home we may journey.
